Samsung TV voice assistant: setting up and fixing Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant
Many Samsung TVs let you speak to the remote or use a smart speaker to change channels, search or control volume. Which assistants you have depends on your model.
What is available
Recent Samsung TVs may support Bixby, and some also support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Not every TV has all three, and the features differ between models and years. Check your TV's e-Manual for the assistants it supports.
Using the microphone button on the remote
- Point the remote at the TV.
- Press and hold the microphone button.
- Speak clearly after the TV shows it is listening. For example, "Open Netflix" or "Turn up the volume."
If nothing happens, try re-pairing the remote by holding Return and Play/Pause together for at least 3 seconds, as described in Samsung's guide to the Smart Remote.
Set up a voice assistant
On recent TVs, look in Settings for a Voice option and choose your assistant. For Alexa or Google, you usually need to link the TV through the phone app for that assistant and sign in to the matching account. The exact steps change between models and app versions, so follow the prompts and check the e-Manual.
If it does not work
- Check the TV has internet. Voice needs a connection.
- Check the remote batteries or charge.
- Update the TV software under Settings > Support > Software Update.
- Check the microphone is not switched off. Some models have a mic switch or a setting for it.
- Try speaking more slowly and closer to the remote.
Privacy
Voice assistants listen and may store recordings. Check the voice and privacy options in Settings and switch off features you do not want. See our privacy and ads guide.
When to get more help
If the assistant is not listed in your TV's settings, the model may not support it. Vision Tech can help you set up or check what is possible.
