Samsung TV keeps turning itself off or restarting

If your Samsung TV switches off on its own, or restarts and shows the Samsung logo again, there is often a simple setting or connection causing it.

Check the sleep and power settings

Some settings are designed to switch the TV off to save energy.

  • Look in Settings for an Auto Power Off or Sleep Timer option. The exact location differs between models and years, so if you cannot find it, search the Settings menu for the word "power" or check the e-Manual on the TV.
  • Check the Sleep Timer is not set to a short time.
  • Some TVs have an energy saving feature that dims or switches off after a period with no remote presses. Turn it down or off if it is annoying you.

Connected devices can cause it

HDMI devices such as soundbars, set-top boxes and games consoles can send power signals to the TV. This feature is often called Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC). If the TV turns off when you switch off a connected device, look for Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) in the Settings menu and try turning it off. Menu names can vary, so use the Settings search if you cannot find it.

Try unplugging all HDMI cables and USB sticks except the aerial. If the problem stops, plug them back one at a time to find the culprit.

Update the software

  1. Press Home on the remote and go to Settings.
  2. Choose Support, then Software Update, then Update Now.

Samsung lists this as the standard way to update. On older models the wording may differ.

Try a power reset

Unplug the TV from the wall for at least one minute, then plug it back in. This clears many temporary glitches.

When to get more help

If the TV keeps restarting even with everything unplugged and the software up to date, it may have a hardware fault. Note how often it happens and whether the red light blinks, then speak to the shop or Samsung about warranty. Vision Tech can help you gather the details and decide the next step.
