Lynx Whiteboard: handwriting to text, backgrounds, images and templates

Please note: this is independent guidance. Vision Tech is not affiliated with Clevertouch. Menus and features differ between models and software versions, so check your screen's own manual or on-screen help, and speak to your school IT team or supplier before changing admin-locked settings, updating firmware or doing a factory reset.

Once you can write and draw in the whiteboard, a few extra features make lessons look more polished. Not every version of Lynx Whiteboard has every feature, so look for the matching option in your toolbar or menu.

Turning handwriting into typed text

Many versions of the software have a way to convert your handwriting into typed text. Look for a handwriting or text conversion option in the toolbar or in the menu that appears when you select your writing.

  1. Write clearly on the page, with letters of a reasonable size.
  2. Select your writing using the select tool.
  3. Choose the convert option if one appears.

Check the result carefully. Handwriting recognition makes mistakes, especially with joined-up writing.

Backgrounds

Many versions let you change the page background from plain white to another colour or to a ruled or squared pattern. This is useful for handwriting practice or maths. Look in the page or background options in the menu.

Inserting images

  1. Find the insert or image option in the toolbar or menu.
  2. Choose where the picture is coming from, such as a USB stick or a folder on the screen.
  3. Select the picture and place it on the page.
  4. Drag to move it and use the corner handles to resize.

Only use images you have the right to use, and avoid pictures of pupils unless your school policy allows it.

Templates

Some versions include ready-made page layouts, such as grids or lines. If your version has a template or gallery option, you can start from one of these instead of a blank page. If you have made a page you like, you can often save the lesson file and copy it for next time.

Keeping it readable

  • Use plain backgrounds with dark text.
  • Do not cram a page with images. Two or three are plenty.
  • Check the text can be read from the back of the room.

When to get more help

Ask IT if a feature you were shown in training is missing, if images will not insert from a USB stick, or if the app seems older than other screens in your school. A software update may be needed.

Did this help? If you are still stuck, email Vision Tech and tell us what you can see on the screen. Menus and button names can differ slightly between versions and makes. If something does not match, stop and ask rather than guess.
