Wall-mounting a Samsung TV safely: why you should hire a professional
A wall-mounted TV looks neat, but a falling TV can cause serious injury and damage. This guide explains what to think about and why a professional is usually the better choice.
Why it matters
Modern TVs are large and heavy. The wall, the bracket, the fixings and the way the TV is hung all matter. A mistake can lead to the TV falling, or to hidden pipes and cables being damaged.
What a professional will check
- What your wall is made of, such as brick, plasterboard or a stud wall
- Whether there are cables or pipes behind where they want to drill
- The weight and size of your TV and the bracket's limit
- The correct fixings for the wall type
- Where the power and aerial cables will run, and whether sockets are in the right place
Use the right bracket
Brackets must match your TV's screen size, weight and mounting holes, known as the VESA pattern. These details are in your manual and on Samsung's support site for your model number. Do not use a bracket that is not rated for your TV. Samsung's own wall mount is made for certain models, and other brackets may be fine too, as long as they are rated for the weight and fit the holes.
Do not do it alone
Even if the wall is simple, a large TV needs two people to lift. Never lift a TV by the screen.
Heat and space
Leave space around the TV for air to circulate. Do not mount it directly above a radiator or fire.
Cables
Do not run mains cables inside the wall unless it is done by a qualified electrician, as this may breach safety rules.
Warranty
Check your warranty. Damage caused by incorrect mounting may not be covered.
Costs
Hiring a local TV mounting service is usually inexpensive compared with the cost of a damaged TV.
When to get more help
