How to mirror your phone to a Fire TV Stick
You can show your phone screen on the TV using a Fire Stick, but how it works depends on your phone and your Fire TV model.
What you need
Your phone and Fire Stick must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Not all models support mirroring, and not all phones do either. Generally, many Android phones can mirror, using a feature with a name such as Smart View, Cast or Screen Mirroring. iPhones work differently and may need an app or a model that supports AirPlay. Support varies between models, so check what your Fire TV offers.
Switch mirroring on at the Fire TV
- Press Home and go to Settings.
- Look for Display & Sounds and an option such as Enable Display Mirroring. Menu names in the Alexa app change from time to time, so if yours looks slightly different, look for the closest wording rather than worrying.
- Select it. The Fire TV will wait for your phone.
Connect your phone
- On an Android phone, open the quick settings by swiping down and look for the Cast or Smart View button.
- Choose your Fire TV from the list.
- Accept any prompt on the TV.
To stop, turn off mirroring on the phone.
Other ways
Many apps, such as Netflix and BBC iPlayer, have a Cast icon in the app. That is often better quality than screen mirroring and keeps your phone free to use.
If it fails
- Check both are on the same Wi-Fi, not a guest network.
- Restart the Fire Stick and phone.
- Mirroring has a slight delay and may not suit games.
- Do not mirror private screens, such as banking, while others watch.
When to get more help
If your phone never finds the Fire TV, there may be a router setting at fault. Please do not turn off security settings. Vision Tech can check it safely.
