Epson Smart Panel: how to set up your Epson printer on Wi-Fi

Epson Smart Panel is Epson's free app for setting up a printer and printing or scanning from a phone or tablet. Steps vary by printer and app version, so follow the app's own prompts as you go.

Before you start

• Unpack and prepare the printer as shown in the leaflet. For EcoTank models, this includes filling the tanks first.
• Make sure your phone is on the Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
• Have your Wi-Fi password to hand.
• Check the printer is switched on and near the router.

Set up with the app

1. Download Epson Smart Panel from the App Store or Google Play.
2. Open the app and follow the prompt to add a printer.
3. The app may ask for permissions, such as Bluetooth, location or local network access. These are normally needed so it can find the printer.
4. Select your printer when it appears, or use the setup option for a new printer.
5. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
6. Wait until the printer confirms it is connected, then print a test page.

If the printer is not found

• Check the printer's Wi-Fi light and display for messages.
• Restart the printer, router and phone.
• Many Epson models only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi during setup. If your router has separate names, use the 2.4GHz one.
• Move closer to the router.
• Check your phone is not on a guest network, which can block printers.

Printing and scanning

Once connected, the app can print photos and documents, and many models can scan to the phone. Not all functions are on every model.

Wi-Fi Direct

Some Epson models offer Wi-Fi Direct, which lets a phone connect to the printer without a router. Check your manual to see whether your model supports it.

When to get more help

Get help if the app never finds the printer, if setup stops with an error, or if you have changed your router. Do not open the printer casing.
