A tour of the screen: home screen, side toolbar and source menu

Please note: this is independent guidance. Vision Tech is not affiliated with Clevertouch. Menus and features differ between models and software versions, so check your screen's own manual or on-screen help, and speak to your school IT team or supplier before changing admin-locked settings, updating firmware or doing a factory reset.

Clevertouch screens look slightly different depending on the model and software version, but most share the same basic layout. This tour uses general wording so you can find the same things on your own screen.

The home screen

When the screen starts up you normally see a home screen with large icons for the built-in tools, such as the whiteboard, the web browser, apps and files. Touch an icon to open it. Many screens also show a clock and a way to open settings.

The side toolbar

Most screens have a small tab or icon fixed to the left or right edge, or sometimes both. Touch it to open a menu or toolbar. On many Clevertouch screens it gives quick access to things like:

  • Going back to the home screen
  • Choosing the input source
  • Opening the annotation or pen tools
  • Switching between open apps
  • Volume and other quick settings

The exact icons vary, so take a minute to touch each one and see what it does. You cannot easily break anything by looking.

The source menu

The source or input menu lists everything the screen can display, for example HDMI from a laptop, a built-in computer module, and the screen's own Android system. Choose the one you want and the picture changes. If you plug in a laptop and the picture does not appear, this is the first place to check.

Settings

Look for a cog or Settings icon. This is where brightness, language, date and time, and network options usually live. Some settings may be locked by your school or office, which is normal.

Getting around

  1. Use the home button to get back to the start.
  2. Use the back button to step out of a tool.
  3. Open the app switcher if you cannot find a program you were using.

When to get more help

Ask IT if an icon you rely on has disappeared, the toolbar will not open, or a menu is greyed out. Mention your model and describe what you see, or take a photo of the screen.

Did this help? If you are still stuck, email Vision Tech and tell us what you can see on the screen. Menus and button names can differ slightly between versions and makes. If something does not match, stop and ask rather than guess.
