How to connect Bluetooth headphones to a Samsung TV
Bluetooth headphones are handy for late-night viewing, or if someone is hard of hearing. Many recent Samsung TVs can pair with them, although not all models do.
Check your TV supports it
Most TVs from the last several years have Bluetooth. If your TV does not offer Bluetooth audio, you will need a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the headphone or optical output. Check the e-Manual if unsure.
Pair your headphones
- Put your headphones into pairing mode. This usually means holding the power button until a light flashes. Your headphone instructions will say how.
- On the TV, press Home and go to Settings.
- Go to Sound > Sound Output and look for Bluetooth Speaker List or a similar option.
- Choose your headphones from the list and confirm.
Menu names can differ between models and years. If you cannot find it, search Settings for "Bluetooth".
Switching between headphones and speakers
When headphones are connected, the TV usually sends sound to them. Go back to Sound Output and choose TV Speaker to switch back. Some Samsung TVs can play sound through the speakers and headphones at once, but this depends on your model.
If they will not connect
- Make sure the headphones are charged.
- Keep them within a few metres, in line of sight.
- Remove old pairings on the headphones and TV and try again.
- Switch the headphones off from other devices such as your phone, as many remember only one device.
- Restart the TV.
Sound delay
Bluetooth can cause a small delay in sound. See our guide on sound out of sync.
Hearing aids
Some Samsung TVs support Bluetooth hearing aids. Look in the Accessibility area of Settings and check your model's manual.
When to get more help
If the TV never shows Bluetooth options, it may not support them. Vision Tech can help you choose a transmitter.
